• Xbox Live Video content is not available for streaming and must be downloaded, with the exception of short clips. Movies are available for rental, with an unlimited number of views in the first 24 hours after download. Television episodes can be purchased to own, and are transferable to an unlimited number of consoles. Downloaded files use 5.1 surround audio and are encoded using VC-1 for video at 720p, with a bitrate of 6.8 Mbps. Content is offered from MTV, VH1, Comedy Central, Turner Broadcasting, CBS for television; and Warner Bros., Paramount for movies along with others.
• High-Definition Game Support
  All games supported at 16:9, 720p and 1080i, anti-aliasing; Standard-definition and high - definition video output supported. An MPEG-2 decoder is included for DVD video playback. VC-1 or WMV is used for streaming video and other video is compressed using VC-1 at non-HD NTSC and PAL resolutions or WMV HD. A wide array of standard and HDTV resolutions, up to 1920×1080 in progressive mode (after fall software upgrade), are supported by the console hardware.
• Media and Storage Supported
  The Xbox 360 is equipped with a 12x DVD drive. The drive is able to read both DVD+-R and DVD+-RW in addition to being able to play DVD-Video out of the box. The system is also capable of playing standard CDs. An external HD-DVD drive was released this year which will be bundled with an Xbox 360 Universal Media Remote, as well as an HD DVD movie of Peter Jackson's King Kong. The drive will play HD DVD movies, although all Xbox 360 games will remain on the DVD format. A detachable hard drive has a storage capacity of 20 GBs is connected through a SATA interface but it is not required for standard games.
• Video and Audio formats supported
  The Xbox 360 supports WMV, MPEG 2, MPEG 4 video formats. You can either download video from the Xbox Live Marketplace, or stream videos from your Windows Media Center PC by using your Xbox 360 as a Media Center Extender. Windows Media Video WMV video codecs supported includes Windows Media Video 7, 8, 9 and Windows Media Video 9 Advanced Profile. Audio in MP3 format and WMA supported. Other popular media file types that are not supported by Xbox 360 consoles include the following: QuickTime, iTunes, RealPlayer video, DivX etc.
• The Xbox 360 HD DVD drive
  An add-on HD DVD drive for the Xbox 360 which attaches to the console via USB 2.0 cable. The Xbox 360 outputs 1080p for games and movies through component and VGA cables. The Xbox 360 does not offer an HDMI output. Many TVs do not accept 1080p through their component inputs. Only a few accept the signal through the PC input. But, a number of new TVs, such as the new Samsung LCD and DLP models, support 1080p over component. According to Microsoft, the Xbox 360 will not include an internal HD DVD drive in future.
